GREEN MOUNTAIN FUND
The Green Mountain Fund was established at the Vermont Community Foundation in 1993 to support charitable activities with a special interest in education and the children and families of Lamoille County. Grantmaking has since been expanded to include bordering communities in the Northeast Kingdom, typically as far north as Craftsbury and as far east as Hardwick. The fund’s areas of interest now include: children, elderly and family services, education, environment, sustainability, and the arts.

Grants from the Green Mountain Fund generally fall in the range of $500 to $5,000. The Fund is interested in opportunities where a modest grant will have impact by leveraging a new idea or other dollars, or by making possible something that will benefit the children and families in the grantmaking region.

In general, the Fund is not interested in supporting capital campaigns, normal operating expenses, or deficit funding. However, occasional exceptions are made for special projects and/or certain circumstances such as:

  • compelling circumstance that would be effectively addressed by a one-year operating grant;
  • the positive impact that a one-time operating grant will have on the organization; or
  • reasonable funding plan following one-year Vermont Community Foundation grant.

How to submit your application:
As of June 1, 2010, the Green Mountain Fund is only accepting applications submitted through the Foundation’s online system. The Fund has two applications, a simpler application for requests under $1,000 and a more detailed application for requests between $1,000 and $5,000.  The Green Mountain Fund rarely makes grants over $5,000.

The Green Mountain Fund makes modest grants to schools or other community organizations which provide educational and enriching activities for children and families. Funding will be considered for such things as after-school programs, enrichment activities, special projects, athletics, and equipment purchases for a project or program. Requests for grants ranging from $500 to $1,000 will be considered.
