    "PBS Kids Go!" Writers Contest

    Vermont Public Television 17th annual “PBS Kids Go!" writers contest, of which the Foundation is a community partner, was held earlier this month. First grader Aiden Mumford won for his illustrated story “Plaque Monster’s Run," about a hero with sparkling white teeth who eats apples until a devious plaque monster starts distributing candy bars willy-nilly to children.

    Music CD to debut from Vermont’s African refugee community

    “Africa, Vermont,” the first music CD to emerge from Vermont’s dynamic refugee community, will be released on June 29th. A year in the making and funded in part by their current Indiegogo campaign and a grant from the Vermont Community Foundation and with mentorship from the Vermont Folklife Center, the eleven track CD is a musical hybid reflecting the group’s African roots, yet fused with a modern contemporary style.

    Community Garden Revival: The Joy of Smelling like Dirt 

    The ability of Woodstock's community gardens to recover from Tropical Storm  Irene has been made possible by some large grants, including one from the Friends of Burlington Gardens' Irene Recovery Fund. This fund was set up to rebuild or relocate community gardens damaged by last year's violent storm, and was financed by generous grants from the Community Foundation and the Episcopal Diocese of Vermont.

    Fort Ti to Host Conference on Lake George, Champlain

    Fort Ticonderoga will a conference on Lake George and Lake Champlain on August 11-12, 2012 that will explore the history, geography, culture, ecology, and current issues related to the Lake George and Lake Champlain region. Fort Ticonderoga recently received a grant from the South Lake Champlain Fund of the Vermont Community Foundation to support the conference.
