PAUL POST FUND
Grantseekers may apply directly to the Paul Post Fund at the address below.

The purpose of the Paul Post Fund is "to provide funds for libraries throughout the state of Vermont for acquisition of books for young adults, the establishment of reading and other enrichment programs, the production of seminars and workshops relating to reading, and for such other programs as the various libraries may from time to time develop to encourage and enhance reading by young adults."

Who May Apply
Any public or school library with a plan or program to serve its young adult population, which would normally be grades 6-12.

Size Of Grants
A total of $4,000 a year will be awarded. The Foundation will determine the number of grants to be awarded annually, but expects that the typical grant will be in the $250-$1,000 range.

Criteria
See a list of Paul Post grants awarded in 2007.

The Fund has a primary interest in projects with a program component. While funds may be used for acquisitions, we hope a plan for their use will be included. Possible plans could be a summer reading group, an after school discussion group with book theme and concluding with speaker, a visit by a favorite author, coordination with a school project, etc.

Questions to be considered: How will you ensure that materials will be used? How will you publicize materials? How will young adults become aware of the program to be offered? Do you plan to involve teenagers in planning and decision making? What criteria were used for choosing books requested? How will the program be implemented?

We encourage the applications to include cooperative planning and collaboration between school and public libraries or with other organizations.

The Fund requests evidence of future support for the program. For example, if this is a reading program, what are the future funding plans after the initial grant money is gone?

Restrictions
Capital improvements—This is an unlikely use of funds unless the request is for facilities for a young adult room.

Operating expenses—No grants will be made for routine operating expenses.

Graphic Novels - Requests for funding of graphic novels will not be considered.

Books-on-Tape, Books-on-CD – The advisor will not exclusively fund the purchase of books-on-tape or books-on-CD but might consider it as a small portion of a larger project.

Salaries—Salaries will not be funded unless the success of a program includes the need for a resource person with special expertise (for example, the cost of an author coming to visit over the summer).

When To Apply
The application deadline is June 1 (postmarked by that date), with decisions to be made in July
