As the pandemic continues and its long-term social and economic impacts are exposed, we face the stark reality that philanthropy, along with state and federal support, won’t be able to meet all the needs of Vermont nonprofits, the communities they serve, and the vital, mission-based work that these entities do. Collectively, we must acknowledge this, and must start the hard conversations about what recovery and resilience might look like in the months and years to come.

What we know about the current crisis is that a family or individual who might have been using the Parent Child center in the past, might now also need housing assistance, or fuel assistance. By working together, the organizations can better track and anticipate the needs of the families and individuals and can respond in a coordinated fashion.

The incredible thing about an emergency is that it inspires us. We reach out. We listen. We help. It is human nature to lean in at times like this, because these are the times when we are reminded that emergencies impact us all.

As the news of containment, prevention, and testing for COVID-19 spreads across the nation, we are looking to our partners to help in planning for Vermont’s communities, and the nonprofits who serve them. We want to recognize the great work of emergency responders, health care providers, home health nurse associations, assisted living centers, and more—immediate responses to the public health emergency in Vermont are already alive and well. And we want to thank so many national, regional, state, and local entities who are already providing resources, services and more!
