Opportunity Gap Grant Programs

Before you apply to one of our Opportunity Gap grant rounds, we encourage you to familiarize yourself with our work by reading the Closing the Opportunity Gap web page, reviewing the Opportunity Gap Strategic Focus Areas, and reading The Opportunity Gap Launch Year Progress Report.   • Our first SPARK! Connecting Community grant round of 2019 is now open. Please click on the + sign below for application details and deadlines. 
  • For the Regional and Local Impact (RALI) Grants—our invitation-only grant round—we have created a Project Idea Form which lets YOU tell us about your idea. Please read the RALI grant information page carefully before completing the Project Idea Form. And if you have questions about your project's fit with the RALI grant round, please contact Celia Cadwell
  • Nonprofit Capacity Building and Special and Urgent Needs grant programs are accepting grants on a rolling basis. Please click on the + sign or name of the grant program below for application guidelines.

Grants of no more than $2,500 each to support the cost of consultants to facilitate discussions related to strategic planning, financial sustainability planning, or facilitating a merger.

DeadlineApplications are accepted on a rolling basis. 2020 applications will re-open February 2020.


$500-$5,000 grants to organizations statewide to help nonprofits dealing with unexpected emergencies.

Deadline: Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. We encourage organizations to apply as soon as the need and a plan to address the need are identified. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.


$500 - $3,000 grants made to organizations throughout Vermont. This grassroots grantmaking focuses on strengthening community connections that lead to action and impact. 

2020  application deadlines and grantee notifications:

Round One: Monday, March 2, at 5:00 pm (Notification: Friday, May 2nd)

Round Two: Thursday, May 28, at 5:00 pm (Notification: Wednesday, July 15

)Round Three: Thursday, October 15, at 5:00 pm  (Notification: Friday, December 4th)


The Regional and Local Impact (RALI) grant program is an invitation-only, place-based grant program. We are looking for ideas that are generated with community engagement that address directly one or more of the four Opportunity Gap strategic focus areas. Preference will be given to those projects that can show readiness, capacity, collaboration, knowledge of best practices, and evaluation necessary for their strategy to be successful. 

Project Idea Forms submitted between December 15, 2019 and January 31, 2020 will be reviewed in early February, 2020.
